SAFETY MATTERS

Be as vigilant ... as you would in any big city. Cape Town is no different.
Apply discretion. Avoid ostentatious possessions.Leave your valuables in your hotel safe.

Be aware ...
of the Noon Day Gun! In a tradition dating back to the early 19th century, at noon a cannon is fired from Signal Hill. Formerely this was a time signal for anchored ships. Now it alerts city dwellers to set their watches and provides exercise opportunities for local pigeons!

Be brave ... drink the tap water - it's reputably one of the best in the world.

WEATHER MATTERS

Some say Cape Town weather has all four seasons in one day ...
What is does have is a year-round, mild Mediterranean climate, with all this connotes ... sea, sky, sand, wind, waves ... so pack a hat, sunblock as well as a windbreaker.

The long
Summer days (November to late March) are sunshine filled, with dusky evenings and star-studded nights.

Spring
(September / October) and Autumn (April / May) are canny times to visit: it is usually balmy in between seasons, and nature is at its showiest in spring.

Winter
(June to August) can be stormy, yet also produce perfect, temperate days. Called "The Green Season'', this is the time of year to spot whales along the coastlines, photograph wildflowers or gather around a fire with a glass of pinotage.
