There we were, minding our own business, when US business magazine Forbes decided to ask a few of their trusted sources to name their 12 “cool” new neighborhoods around the world.

These neighbourhoods are not mainstream tourist traps, but rather places where locals go to enjoy things you and I treasure when we are in our own ”hoods, that now you can experience as a curious visitor.

And out of the 12 international recommendations of one suburb per country, South Africa happens to get TWO, yes, not just one in Cape Town, but a Johannesburg counterpart that is just as vibrant and “cool”.

So when you’re ready, the quaint seaside village of Kalk Bay in Cape Town, and the creative melting-pot of Maboneng in Johannesburg are waiting to utterly delight you.

These ‘hoods beat Manhattan in New York, and London’s fashionable Soho district. The list also includes Amsterdam Noord in Amsterdam, Keramikos in Athens, and Seongsu-dong in Seoul. Other entries include Saints in Barcelona, Navy Yard in Washington DC, Getsemani in Cartagena, Plekhanov in Tbilisi, Casco Viejo in Panama City, District 5 in Saigon, and Pilsen in Chicago.

Talk to us, we  take you here, there and everywhere else.
