Kariega Game Reserve

Kariega Game Reserve – Eastern Cape

Kariega Game Reserve is situated in Frontier Country, the historical heartland of the Eastern Cape, about an hour’s journey north of Port Elizabeth.
Nestled on the banks of the Bushman’s River, the family-owned and operated private game reserve stretching across 9,000 hectares of pristine wilderness is unique in that it connects a Big-5 game reserve to the sea, and is home to some of the richest biodiversity in Southern Africa.

River Lodge’s spacious suites stretch out along the river banks and offer peace and tranquillity from their ten thatched en-suite rooms with private patios – all air-conditioned as well as supplied with an overhead fan.

Experience the wonder of the African bush, where the pace of the day revolves around safari drives – close-up encounters with wildlife, where experienced game rangers escort you on morning safaris in open game-drive vehicles, traversing valleys, grassy plains and African bushveld Safari, to bring you close to the freely roaming Big 5: lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard – and tranquil river cruises, where you watch out for hippo and listen out for the evocative cry of the fish eagles.

Over dinner and fireside conversations, be captivated by renowned raconteur Alan Weyer’s historical tales and humorous anecdotes, hearing about the region’s spectacular battles, courageous people and significant places like Grahamstown, Salem and Bathurst.
As well as being Kariega’s general manager, Alan is also a revered comedian whose hilarious exposé on local Eastern Cape dynamics has been inspired by his own experiences as a farmer in the Albany area.
