Leshiba Mountain Lodge

Leshiba Mountain Lodge

H12 Leshiba is spectacularly positioned in a hidden valley on top of the mystical Soutpansberg mountains in the Limpopo. This private game reserve is a family-run mountain retreat that offers a uniquely African experience with luxury touches, warm hospitality and rich memories.

You’ll stay in an authentic traditional village re-created by recognised Venda artists including internationally renowned Noria Mabasa and Thomas Kubayi, who have sculpted a wonderland of seamlessly blended art and living space.
The artworks derive their inspiration from the mythical, which form part of the local culture. Narratives, visions and dreams may be manifested in carvings, while the abstract can be embodied within what was once a raw and undefined piece of wood.
The village has en-suite African style huts (rondavels) that open up to sculpted sun-baked courtyards.
Apart from the  rondavels, there are suites with plunge pools and patios, overlooking the wildlife grazing on the plain below.

Wild and wonderful, it’s one of the most diverse reserves in Southern Africa. Trees to keep every botanist enthralled, a choir of birdlife, and an abundance of game, plus remote trails through forests, across plains and down breathtaking gorges with sparkling pools.

You are certain to have exhilarating game experiences, with two valleys that each have their own wetland area – and  the Soutpansberg is the only place in South Africa to find all 5 primates. The reserve is a sanctuary for giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, leopard and a number of antelope  species. A dazzle of zebra come slowly down to the waterhole to drink, their foals gallantly wading in and splashing their hooves with delight. Night drives may reveal civets, genets and African wild cats while sightings of leopard, brown hyena, porcupines and pangolins as well as the delightful aardvark are possible.

A variety of activities are available, guided and unguided. Enjoy game drives morning or evening; visit ancient rock art sites; hike; horse ride; or just stargaze. Guided walks are a perfect introduction to the African bush. Knowledgeable rangers  show you medicinal and useful plants, how to identify trees, teach you tracking skills and take you up close and personal with wildlife. They also afford a wonderful opportunity for birders.
The malaria-free reserve offers unrivalled scenery, unspoilt nature, a variety of wildlife,  and the most unexpected chance to get up-close to Venda art, craft and architecture.

H12 Leshiba is a”rare jewel” and decidedly ”off the beaten path”.
