Rest In Peace

It was poignantly symbolic. I spent Friday 6th December in the company of ace story teller Garth Angus of Footsteps to Freedom, who launched a walking tour entitled: Mandela in Cape Town – from Prisoner to President.

This 2-hour richly informative walk chronicles the remarkable journey of Nelson Mandela from behind the prison walls of infamous Robben Island, to the pinnacle of power in Parliament.

Along the route passing Capetonians ebbed and flowed around our group, lingering to hear what Garth was sharing in his inimitable way, of this colossus of a man whose life has shape-shifted every South Africans’ and it seems, also inspired the rest of the world.

How apt then to share this image displayed permanently in the Mandela-Rhodes building at the top of St Georges Street, where their tribute to Mandela combines evocative pictures with select quotes from Long Walk to Freedom.
