A most magical musical evening in the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA).
The Chanticleer Singers enchanted. Richard Cock conducted inimitably. Classical guitarist James Grace beguiled.
Cape Town Waterfront’s iconic Silo building was transformed into an industrial cathedral with pin-droppingly exquisite acoustics.
The site specific performance Harbouring Expectations was a testament to the history of migration, production and export akin to the port of Cape Town. It brought our attention to the museums’ unique structure and how it once functioned in relation to the surrounding harbour.
The selection of scores symbolized through sound the beginning and end of maritime journeys as well as a place of expectation. The sonic intervention decidedly tapped into architect Thomas Heatherwick’s redesign of the building, its interstices, and remarkable acoustic qualities. What a night!
