Table Mountain is in the running to become one of the New7Wonders of Nature.
It has captured the imagination of travellers since sailors first rounded the Cape.
For Nelson Mandela, Table Mountain is the quintessential South African symbol – and icon for a nation trying to rebuild itself.
As much as a natural wilderness – and national park for all – it’s also a cultural landmark and symbol that has ‘spoken’ through various interpreters in different ways with astonishing variety and diversity over the centuries.
As Sir Edmund Hillary said at the launch of the Table Mountain Trust in 1994:
“There is probably no more spectacular place in the world than Cape Town and Table Mountain at the tip of Africa.”
In two months time, the New7Wonders will be announced on November 11, 2011. Help to ensure its place in the history books. Cast your vote for Table Mountain online
